The bearded horsemussel can grow up to 6 cm in size, though it is usually smaller. The colour on the outer surface of its shell can be creamy white, light yellow or reddish-brown. It lives on the seabed underneath rocks or in crevices where it feeds by filtering nutrients from the water.
